A Windy, Wet Day in Shetland – Snuggles, Soap Rooms, and a Bit of TV

The weather today here in Shetland is exactly what you might expect at this time of year — windy, wet, and blustery. The kind of day where the rain taps steadily against the windows and the wind whistles around the buildings.

For the goats, it’s the perfect excuse to stay cosy. Little Miss Goatee and all her friends are fed, warm, and snuggled up out of the weather. Days like this are made for hay, shelter, and a good rest. Didley has clearly decided that today is not a day for adventure. Instead, he’s curled up comfortably, looking as if he has absolutely no intention of moving any time soon. In fact, judging by the look on his face, he seems quite convinced it’s going to be a very chilled-out kind of day.

Bella, on the other hand, has taken a slightly different approach to the weather. Rather than sleeping through it, she’s stretched out on the rug watching the news on TV, keeping up with the world while staying warm and dry indoors.

As for me… unfortunately there’s no chilled day planned here.

While the animals relax and the rain pours down outside, I’ll be spending the day clearing out the soap room. It’s one of those jobs that always seems to grow bigger the longer you leave it — reorganising supplies, tidying shelves, and making space for the next batches to be made.

Still, there’s something quite satisfying about getting everything back in order while the weather rages outside. And if I’m lucky, once the soap room is sorted, maybe I’ll manage a cup of tea and a few quiet minutes — although I doubt I’ll be as relaxed as Didley.

For now, it’s a classic Shetland day: wind outside, animals cosy inside, and plenty to keep busy with.
